Frequently Asked Questions

What's Going On?

A random bunch of transparent polygons are created. To create an image, they progressively mutate in size, colour, opacity, and number of vertices.

How can I help?

Generate some images in your browser.

Rating images is also very helpful.

How is Rating Images Helpful?

There are certain parameters that set how an image is generated, for example some images are allowed to use more polygons than others, or an image's polygons may be constrained to certain dimensions.

Dirty Triangles learns from your ratings to create images that are more likely to please, and less likely to be duds.

Can I Make it Go Faster?

Have a look at the browser performance stats, they might indicate whether there's a faster browser you could try.

Also note the some browsers may slow JavaScript execution in a background tab, so keep Dirty Triangles on display in the browser window if you want it to go fast.

What's the Point? Whence did this Idea Come?

Don't know yet. Roger Alsing came up with the idea of evolving a picture from polygons, check out his article on Evolving Mona Lisa. Altered Qualia implemented the first version in JavaScript.

Can I Make a Suggestion?

Does this Work in Internet Explorer?

It won't work in Internet Explorer 8 or earlier. It seems to work, albeit very slowly, in Internet Explorer 9.
